Biography |
I have always loved music and since my teenage years, I have had a deep need to express myself through writing songs. Music has always seemed to be an extension of who I am and something that I have always needed to do. I formed a band with my friends after leaving school and we played around various Brisbane venues for a brief period in 1999 and early 2000. Not everyone in the band was interested in taking it to the next level so after a period of time, we just drifted our separate ways. Lacking confidence at the time, I set aside my dreams of making a career out of music and settled into a regular day job. I kept writing songs and doing the occasional performance, always saying to myself "one day I'll do more with my music". For a number of years, I advanced my career in Information Technology until 2007 when I developed health problems that resulted in the loss of my job and my independence. I had a lot of time for contemplation during this bleak period and I began to think more about my life and where I was heading. I also realised more than ever that music was my real passion and how I had been neglecting who I truly was for so many years. I was determined that not only would I get better, but that when I did, I would follow my dream of building a career as a singer-songwriter. Over the next 18 months, I worked hard at recovering my health and although there were several setbacks along the way, I was able to start singing, playing guitar and recording again. It was a daily struggle but over the weeks and months I gradually increased the amount of time I could put into my music as my health improved. By early 2009, I had improved my health to the point where I was able to get a casual job delivering pamphlets and I started busking at the local markets to raise the funds needed to release an album of songs recorded during this time. By May I had saved enough money to pay for the CD pressing and I decided to name the album "Learning To Walk". Many of the songs from "Learning To Walk" relate directly to what I have learned during this period of my life: humility, the importance of love, compassion and the value of others and is the start of following a dream that I have always had.
